Sunday morning doubts...

1) Does Sveta have a partner?!?! Other than a sparring one, I mean. Quote from one of her Wimby interviews:

Q. Are you prepared to play on Monday if you need to?

SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA: I don't have another choice. I'm here with my partner. I mean, what can I do?

2) Shall I go to Taranto for the Fed Cup next weekend? From Rome it takes about 6/7 hours by car or by train. I could leave on Friday evening but I'm afraid it's going to be too stressful as I'd have to be back to work on Monday morning.

you should definitively go to fedcup! (i'm goin to the austrian aswell)
fedcups are always great, althought you have to cheer against your country :p

rafa fuckin nadal won the 4th set :/

Ah, she meant Nadia. She was still in doubles when she gave that interview.

But in a questionnaire on soubrette's Sveta site, Sveta did say she would take a "friend or lover" with her to a deserted island.

I haven't gone to WTAWorld this morning yet, but last night I read that Sveta has major shoulder problems and may need surgery. (yikes. surgery probably equals end of season.)

As for Fed Cup, well, how is your health? And how much do you want to see Mauresmo again?

I'm going to the Fed Cup held in the US. It's a long long journey for me to get there as well. Flights from California to Vermont are few. (Plus I'm leaving on Thursday night and not getting back to CA until Monday.)

I'm not even sure I'll get to see any of my favorites play, but it will be fun to see Fed Cup (I've never gone to any Fed Cup matches before.)

"But in a questionnaire on soubrette's Sveta site..." LOL you are a real Svetasapiens!

About my health, I feel ok but I'm a little unstable at the moment; I've been offered a chance to do a serious PhD in a world class University (Europe Top2, World Top10).

I already have one but it's not so prestigious. Perhaps I could use a little academic quality, once in a while, I think.

So yeah, it's just lots of anomic waves on me right now, those that are so bad for my health, at least in the short term. So I'd better not take any risks for the Fed Cup.

But have fun if you're going!

Yes, best not to go to Fed Cup if you are feeling like that. I will be going to Fed Cup. No Sveta, but I will get Nadia (surprise surprise!)

And yes, I love me some Sveta. Probably too much.

Bumsby try to slow down

Spank said...

Would going by plane be easier or quicker? Or is it too expensive?

Spank said...

Grottaglie Airport - Taranto, Italy.

Casale Airport - Brindisi, Italy.

Palese Macchie Airport - Bari, Italy.

Bumsby said...

There are no straight Rome-Taranto flights on those dates. There are some Roma-Bari and Roma-Brindisi but the timetables don't match with the bus/train ones (I'd have to take the bus or the train to Nova Yardinia from there).

You probably don't realize what those places are like. It's like going to Africa: no opportunities outside the king's home.

Nadl said...

it's in south italy right?
our geography teacher told us that it's there like in africa..
i cant imagine that tho.. i mean it's 1 country and so big differences?!

Bumsby said...

Yeah... it's the Italian mystery. It's a classic puzzle for social scientists. :)

Nadl said...

oh i see..

but where is there like this? *confused*

Spank said...

It's the same outside of London :(

Unknown said...

Listen to you!!

*rolls eyes*

OK, this is where I break down and say something good about the US (Christ, I'll never hear the end of it, I know):

If public transportation isn't going to cut it for you, rent a frickin' car!!! It's a little hunk of freedom on four wheels, usually with air conditioning and a CD player....

It's always an option. *shrug*

Spank said...

Have you heard of congestion charging and toll bridges?? :P

KJ said...

Hey, Its not like the 3rd world here! theres FAR too much rain! lol

Unknown said...

I thought the congestion charges were only in London? And if you're in London then you've got the Tube, right?

And toll bridges - puh-leeze. I know everybody talks about the "freeway" system in the US, but actually there's very little "freeway" left in the US (California is an exception, I'm happy to say). Mostly it's Tollways all over the place - and it can get kinda pricey, depending on where you're going.

Bumsby said...

Not to mention driving... too lazy, here. *yawn*

LOL j/k

No, public transportation in small places (NOT in the US) can be efficient, convenient and cheap. And you can read/work on your way (or listen to your iPod as in your car).

And sapph, I'm surprised you didn't say something Communist... LOL j/k ;)

Bumsby said...

Later guys, I'm going home :P

Unknown said...

Oooo... Ms. Bum Squick said something negative about the US!!!

As for the Communist thing... you're projecting again, dearie.

Spank said...

Public transport in the UK outside of London and the other cities is expensive, uncomfortable and very unreliable. You can also listen to other people's ipods/headphones and witness them perform the following - shouting into their phones, drinking beer, being abusive, smoking dope etc etc etc I'm not surprised the private car is so popular.

I read an article earlier about a porsche that had been converted to and eletric engine. I'm sure that will please Amelix.

Bumsby said...

I've heard British trains have gotten worse after the national company has been privatized a few years ago. Do you concur?

About all that happens inside the trains, at least there are connections! Imagine few railways and few trains a day on top of all that you said.

Btw on Swedish trains talking is forbidden. You probably won't believe it, but it's true. There are clear signs. Plus I've been silenced personally. I was speaking with a very soft voice, almost whispering with a colleague a couple of years ago, and the train personnel came to me and told me to be silent.

*eek* *worship*

Spank said...

I'm moving to Sweden...

Unknown said...

That's just taking things to extremes, though. What if you have a question about where to get off / which stop is yours?

And I'm a big believer in Silence is Golden....

Bumsby said...

*rolls eyes* sapph you're supposed to be enough awake for that :P
And asking a question is not forbidden, just continuos talk. Chatting. Everyone is reading books *worship*

Once I learned the figure for the industry of books in Swedish and I was like *eek* it was huge considering only Swedes speak Swedish, and they're around 10 million people I think.

Everyone reads *worship again*

(And go Martin Luther)

Unknown said...

Yes, yes... we know you love Protestants.

And you didn't say that continuous conversation was forbidden, you said talking was forbidden.

Duh.

Bumsby said...

the sign says "talking" but try to imagine the situation... it's not like there are four gunmen in each couch ready to blow you off as you sneeze... ;)

I just think it's unbelievable, the level of respect for humanity that they have. It makes me want to learn Swedish and move there.

And yes, it has to do with the Reform, believe it or not. Speaking of which, OMG, today moron racistinger said that Protestant churches are not real churches because they don't recognize the Pope's authority ROFLMAO he's so faithful to their roots, it's a joy to hear him. Reminds me of Pius IX and the Papal Infallibility dogma. Hilarious.

So yes, go Martin Luther.

Too bad I need sleep now, just when the chatting got interesting... ;)

Unknown said...

Bah... kiss the damn ring, or you'll be subjected to a diet of worms.

*snicker*

I reject it all, dammit!!

Spank said...

The birds aren't bad looking in Sweden :)

Unknown said...

Heh... lots of pretty blond feathers.

Spank said...

But it's not cheep up there..

Unknown said...

LOL, too right. Not too many items for sale that are going for a song.

*snigger*

I had a friend who worked there for a term teaching English as a second language - she said it was like living in grinding poverty, the cost of living was so high. Not fun.

Spank said...

Your jokes are as bad as mine.. :D

Unknown said...

Why, thank you, ma'am!!

I find it very sad that Americans just don't appreciate the fine art of the pun. :( It's one of the things I do miss about back home, that playing around with words just for the sheer fun of it.

Nadl said...

where is back home?

When I visited Sweden (years ago) I thought I was going to die from lack of spices. There is only so much fish in cream sauce I can eat.

When I got back to the US, I went to the closest Indian restaurant, ordered the hottest vindaloo.

Speaking of vindaloo, I followed a recipe for it once. I made the mistake of putting my finger in my mouth after making the marinade; I'd gotten a bit of the marinade on my finger, and with typical cook behavior, licked it off. Instant fire in my mouth; never had I felt such hotness.

Great marinade, though.

Back to the topic of Sweden: the blondes were amazing. The athletic blondes were beyond belief.

Hugo87 said...

Spank you are really moving to Sweden?

Unknown said...

Yes, she is. She's going to study to become a certified Swedish Massage therapist.

And I understand that (thanks to some well-placed connections in the AELTC) she has an appointment with Bjorn Borg to go over tips on how to approach the blonde bombshells she's sure to meet (the ones so enthusiastically alluded to in Mary's post).

We expect frequent and detailed blogging, Spanky!!

;)

Spank said...

It's all completely true.
Infact I get my certificate in "Massage Therapy" tomorrow and will be jetting off to the Fed Cup semi final in tItaly on Friday..:P

Unknown said...

So soon?! Man, you work fast, woman!

Where is the next round - sPain?

ROFL

Bumsby said...

It's so late! I was supposed to be here at 10pm but I got very unlucky trainswise and couldn't make it earlier. I'm afraid tomorrow I won't be too sharp and will have eye-bags (is that the word?). But it's nice to stay in real hotels once in a while, not to mention in the North.

Anonymous said...

Welcome back! I hope you got lots of sleep.

Nadl said...

where have u been btw?

and welcome back =)

Bumsby said...

I'm not back yet! I'm still here, in my hotel room :P
Not that I was lucid enough to make it clear.
I'm in Emilia Romagna, one of Italy's coolest and finest regions IMO.
I'll be back in Rome tomorrow night.

Unknown said...

See? I told you they let her out again without making public safety announcements....

And the eye-bags are every cool chick's de riguer accessories for their eye-pod. Also that other, similarly-named accessory, that runs on batt- oh, never mind.

*devil*
